This comprehensive introduction to Tibetan Buddhism is designed mainly around a single primary text in translation. It introduces students to fundamental aspects of Tibetan Buddhist thought and practice—philosophy, meditation, ritual, and ethics. Through the lives of Tibetan Buddhist leaders and thinkers, both past and present, students will also learn about Tibetan Buddhism as a lived tradition.

Students in the course participate in reflection and discussion, through online forums and in class, in order to develop a critical practice of reading primary materials in translation.
